Philip Morris Companies renamed itself in 2003 and separated its international tobacco business in 2008, leaving a company that sells Marlboro and other cigarettes only in the United States. Volumes decline every year and have for decades; earnings grow because the brand supports price increases faster than smokers quit. That equation is the entire investment case and also its limit. Investments in smoke-free products, including an equity stake in ABI and the NJOY vapor acquisition, have had mixed results. Headquarters are in Richmond, Virginia.
