ADP separated its brokerage services division in 2007, creating a company that runs the unglamorous infrastructure of shareholder communications: proxy statements, vote processing, and account statements for most of the retail investors in the United States. Regulation requires that those documents reach shareholders, so demand does not depend on market direction, and the processing runs at a scale competitors cannot economically replicate. A second business supplies trade processing and back-office systems to broker-dealers under multi-year contracts. Recurring revenue and high client retention are the defining financial characteristics. Headquarters are in Lake Success, New York.

If a meaningful share of your net worth sits in BR, concentration risk is the question. This calculator quantifies drawdown impact at 30 / 50 / 70%, and the trade-off between selling down (tax cost now) versus hedging (option premium drag), auto-filled with BR's option-implied volatility.
Example: 5,000 BR shares at $169.86 is a $849,300 position. A 30% drawdown costs $254,790; a 50% drawdown costs $424,650; a 70% drawdown costs $594,510. The calculator quantifies the trade-off between selling down (immediate capital-gains tax) and hedging (option premium drag) using BR's option-implied volatility and your cost basis.
