Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) is an American video game company headquartered in Redwood City, California. Founded in May 1982 by former Apple employee Trip Hawkins, the company was a pioneer of the early home computer game industry and promoted the designers and programmers responsible for its games as "software artists". EA published numerous games and some productivity software for personal computers, all of which were developed by external individuals or groups until 1987's Skate or Die! The company shifted toward internal game studios, often through acquisitions, such as Distinctive Software becoming EA Canada in 1991.

Trip Hawkins left Apple to found the company in 1982, packaged games like record albums, and credited developers as artists on the covers. EA now runs on franchises with annual cadence: the sports titles built on FIFA, now EA Sports FC, plus Madden, The Sims, Apex Legends, and Battlefield. Live services and in-game purchases supply a large majority of revenue, which shifted the business from box sales to recurring spending. Studios sit worldwide, including DICE, BioWare, and Respawn, with headquarters in Redwood City, California.

- Equity compensation at Electronic Arts typically takes the form of restricted stock units (RSUs). Restricted stock units are taxed as ordinary income when they vest.
