It was formed on December 4, 2019, as ViacomCBS, through the merger of the second incarnations of Viacom and CBS Corporation, which were split from the original Viacom in 2005. Paramount Global traces to three lineages: Paramount Pictures, founded in 1912; CBS, launched as a radio network in 1927; and Viacom, spun off from CBS in 1971 to hold its cable channels. The businesses merged in 2019 as ViacomCBS, renamed Paramount Global in 2022, and controlled film, broadcast television (CBS), cable networks (MTV, Nickelodeon, BET, Showtime), and the Paramount+ streaming service, which reached 77.5 million subscribers by the end of 2024. On August 7, 2025, Paramount Global merged with Skydance Media in an $8 billion deal, forming Paramount Skydance Corporation under CEO David Ellison.

  • RSUs use single-trigger vesting: shares become yours as each portion vests on schedule, and the value is taxed as ordinary income at that point. No IPO or acquisition is required.

If a meaningful share of your net worth sits in PARA, concentration risk is the question. This calculator quantifies drawdown impact at 30 / 50 / 70%, and the trade-off between selling down (tax cost now) versus hedging (option premium drag), auto-filled with PARA's option-implied volatility.

Example: 5,000 PARA shares at $0.58 is a $2,880 position. A 30% drawdown costs $864; a 50% drawdown costs $1,440; a 70% drawdown costs $2,016. The calculator quantifies the trade-off between selling down (immediate capital-gains tax) and hedging (option premium drag) using PARA's option-implied volatility and your cost basis.

Paramount equity questions

How much PARA stock is too much?
There is no single threshold, but the larger the share of your net worth in one stock, the more a single bad year can set back your plans. The calculator above quantifies the drawdown impact at 30, 50, and 70 percent for your PARA position and weighs selling down (which triggers capital-gains tax now) against hedging (which costs option premium).
Does Paramount grant ISOs, NSOs, or RSUs?
Equity compensation at Paramount typically takes the form of restricted stock units (RSUs). Restricted stock units are taxed as ordinary income when they vest.
Do Paramount RSUs use double-trigger vesting?
No. Paramount restricted stock units (RSUs) use single-trigger vesting: each tranche becomes yours as it vests on schedule, taxed as ordinary income at that point, with no liquidity event required.
