The company provides the US Department of Defense and foreign militaries with small and medium-sized drones—notably the Raven, Switchblade, Wasp, and Puma. Through its acquisition of BlueHalo in 2025, the company provides directed energy and space communications systems to U.S. and foreign militaries.

Paul MacCready founded the company in 1971 and built the Gossamer Condor, the first human-powered aircraft to complete a figure-eight course, then the solar Helios. Defense work became the business: hand-launched Raven and Puma reconnaissance drones, and Switchblade loitering munitions that soldiers carry in a backpack, both used extensively in Ukraine. The 2021 Arcturus UAV purchase added larger systems and the 2025 BlueHalo deal added space and directed energy. Headquarters are in Arlington, Virginia.

AeroVironment equity questions

How much does it cost to hedge AVAV stock?
The cost of a protective put depends on how far below the current price you set the floor, how long the protection lasts, and AVAV's option-implied volatility. A zero-cost collar lowers that cost by selling away some upside. The calculator above prices both structures off the current AVAV option chain and shows the annual cost, maximum loss, and tax treatment.
Does AeroVironment grant ISOs, NSOs, or RSUs?
Equity compensation at AeroVironment typically takes the form of restricted stock units (RSUs). Restricted stock units are taxed as ordinary income when they vest.
Do AeroVironment RSUs use double-trigger vesting?
No. AeroVironment restricted stock units (RSUs) use single-trigger vesting: each tranche becomes yours as it vests on schedule, taxed as ordinary income at that point, with no liquidity event required.
