Thomas Frist Senior, Thomas Frist Junior, and Jack Massey founded the company in Nashville in 1968, creating the investor-owned hospital model. It now operates roughly 180 hospitals and thousands of outpatient sites, concentrated in Texas and Florida where population growth favors capacity. The company went private in a 2006 leveraged buyout and returned to public markets in 2011. Results turn on payer mix, admissions volume, and labor costs, the last having spiked during pandemic nurse shortages before normalizing.

HCA Healthcare equity questions
- How much does it cost to hedge HCA stock?
- The cost of a protective put depends on how far below the current price you set the floor, how long the protection lasts, and HCA's option-implied volatility. A zero-cost collar lowers that cost by selling away some upside. The calculator above prices both structures off the current HCA option chain and shows the annual cost, maximum loss, and tax treatment.

- Equity compensation at HCA Healthcare typically takes the form of restricted stock units (RSUs). Restricted stock units are taxed as ordinary income when they vest.
- Do HCA Healthcare RSUs use double-trigger vesting?
- No. HCA Healthcare restricted stock units (RSUs) use single-trigger vesting: each tranche becomes yours as it vests on schedule, taxed as ordinary income at that point, with no liquidity event required.
