PTC Inc. is an American computer software and services company founded in 1985 and headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. The company was a pioneer in parametric, associative feature-based, solid computer-aided design (CAD) modeling software in 1988, including an Internet-based product for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) in 1998. PTC markets products and services and an Internet of Things (IoT) and augmented reality (AR) platform for partners and developers.

Samuel Geisberg founded Parametric Technology Corporation in 1985, and Pro/ENGINEER introduced parametric feature-based modeling, where changing a dimension updates the whole model. That product became Creo. Windchill added product lifecycle management, and the ThingWorx and Vuforia acquisitions extended into industrial internet of things and augmented reality. Onshape brought cloud-native computer-aided design in 2019 and Codebeamer added application lifecycle management. The Boston company sells to discrete manufacturers, and its subscription conversion completed years before most peers finished theirs.

Equity comp at PTC
- RSUs use single-trigger vesting: shares become yours as each portion vests on schedule, and the value is taxed as ordinary income at that point. No IPO or acquisition is required.

A protective put caps your downside on the PTC position at a chosen floor; a zero-cost collar pays for that floor by capping the upside. This calculator prices both structures off the current PTC option chain, with annual cost, max loss, and tax-treatment notes.

PTC equity questions
- How much does it cost to hedge PTC stock?
- The cost of a protective put depends on how far below the current price you set the floor, how long the protection lasts, and PTC's option-implied volatility. A zero-cost collar lowers that cost by selling away some upside. The calculator above prices both structures off the current PTC option chain and shows the annual cost, maximum loss, and tax treatment.
- Does PTC grant ISOs, NSOs, or RSUs?
- Equity compensation at PTC typically takes the form of restricted stock units (RSUs). Restricted stock units are taxed as ordinary income when they vest.
- Do PTC RSUs use double-trigger vesting?
- No. PTC restricted stock units (RSUs) use single-trigger vesting: each tranche becomes yours as it vests on schedule, taxed as ordinary income at that point, with no liquidity event required.
