About Arm
Arm (ARM) is a public Semiconductors company, incorporated in X0 and headquartered in Cambridge, X0.

Arm Holdings plc is a British semiconductor and software design company headquartered in Cambridge, England, whose primary business is the design of central processing unit (CPU) cores that implement the ARM architecture family of instruction sets. It also designs other chips, provides software development tools under the DS-5, RealView and Keil brands, and provides systems and platforms, system-on-chip (SoC) infrastructure and software. As a holding company, it also holds shares of other companies. Since 2016, it has been majority owned by Japanese conglomerate SoftBank Group.

Born in 1990 as a joint venture between Acorn Computers, Apple, and VLSI Technology, the Cambridge company designs processor architectures and licenses them rather than manufacturing anything. Its instruction set runs in almost every smartphone, and has pushed into datacenters through designs like Neoverse and into cars and microcontrollers. SoftBank took it private in 2016; a proposed sale to Nvidia collapsed under regulatory pressure in 2022; it listed on Nasdaq in September 2023 with SoftBank retaining majority control. Royalties per chip plus upfront licenses make the model unusually high margin.

Arm equity questions
- How much ARM stock is too much?
- There is no single threshold, but the larger the share of your net worth in one stock, the more a single bad year can set back your plans. The calculator above quantifies the drawdown impact at 30, 50, and 70 percent for your ARM position and weighs selling down (which triggers capital-gains tax now) against hedging (which costs option premium).
- Does Arm grant ISOs, NSOs, or RSUs?
- Equity compensation at Arm typically takes the form of restricted stock units (RSUs). Restricted stock units are taxed as ordinary income when they vest.
- Do Arm RSUs use double-trigger vesting?
- No. Arm restricted stock units (RSUs) use single-trigger vesting: each tranche becomes yours as it vests on schedule, taxed as ordinary income at that point, with no liquidity event required.
