The National Association of Securities Dealers launched the first electronic quotation system in 1971, replacing telephone-negotiated over-the-counter trading. The company demutualized and listed in 2002. Trading and listing fees remain visible but no longer dominate: market technology sold to other exchanges worldwide, index licensing for products tracking the Nasdaq-100, and financial crime and regulatory software including the Adenza acquisition now supply a large share of revenue. Headquarters are in New York City.

Nasdaq equity questions
- How much does it cost to hedge NDAQ stock?
- The cost of a protective put depends on how far below the current price you set the floor, how long the protection lasts, and NDAQ's option-implied volatility. A zero-cost collar lowers that cost by selling away some upside. The calculator above prices both structures off the current NDAQ option chain and shows the annual cost, maximum loss, and tax treatment.
- Does Nasdaq grant ISOs, NSOs, or RSUs?
- Equity compensation at Nasdaq typically takes the form of restricted stock units (RSUs). Restricted stock units are taxed as ordinary income when they vest.
- Do Nasdaq RSUs use double-trigger vesting?
- No. Nasdaq restricted stock units (RSUs) use single-trigger vesting: each tranche becomes yours as it vests on schedule, taxed as ordinary income at that point, with no liquidity event required.
