Wallace Abbott, a Chicago physician, founded the company in 1888 to make precise alkaloid dosages. Four businesses run today: diagnostics, which produced the BinaxNOW rapid COVID tests, medical devices including the FreeStyle Libre continuous glucose monitor and structural heart products, established pharmaceuticals sold mainly in emerging markets, and nutrition brands Similac and Ensure. A 2022 recall and plant shutdown at a Michigan infant formula facility contributed to a national shortage. The research-based pharmaceutical business was separated as AbbVie in 2013.

Abbott equity questions

How much does it cost to hedge ABT stock?
The cost of a protective put depends on how far below the current price you set the floor, how long the protection lasts, and ABT's option-implied volatility. A zero-cost collar lowers that cost by selling away some upside. The calculator above prices both structures off the current ABT option chain and shows the annual cost, maximum loss, and tax treatment.
Does Abbott grant ISOs, NSOs, or RSUs?
Equity compensation at Abbott typically takes the form of restricted stock units (RSUs). Restricted stock units are taxed as ordinary income when they vest.
Do Abbott RSUs use double-trigger vesting?
No. Abbott restricted stock units (RSUs) use single-trigger vesting: each tranche becomes yours as it vests on schedule, taxed as ordinary income at that point, with no liquidity event required.
