Homer Stryker, an orthopedic surgeon in Kalamazoo, Michigan, founded the company in 1941 after designing a mobile hospital bed and a cast-cutting saw. Orthopedic implants for hips and knees remain central, alongside surgical equipment, neurotechnology, and the Mako robotic-arm system acquired in 2013, which surgeons use for joint replacement planning and execution. The 2020 Wright Medical acquisition added extremities. Growth has come through a steady acquisition program rather than a few large deals, and headquarters remain in Kalamazoo.

Stryker equity questions
- How much does it cost to hedge SYK stock?
- The cost of a protective put depends on how far below the current price you set the floor, how long the protection lasts, and SYK's option-implied volatility. A zero-cost collar lowers that cost by selling away some upside. The calculator above prices both structures off the current SYK option chain and shows the annual cost, maximum loss, and tax treatment.
- Does Stryker grant ISOs, NSOs, or RSUs?
- Equity compensation at Stryker typically takes the form of restricted stock units (RSUs). Restricted stock units are taxed as ordinary income when they vest.
- Do Stryker RSUs use double-trigger vesting?
- No. Stryker restricted stock units (RSUs) use single-trigger vesting: each tranche becomes yours as it vests on schedule, taxed as ordinary income at that point, with no liquidity event required.
