Ivan Zhao and Simon Last founded Notion in San Francisco in 2013 with the goal of building a single workspace that could replace documents, spreadsheets, wikis, and project trackers. The product launched publicly in 2016 and grew primarily through word of mouth. Notion hit $400 million in annual revenue in 2024, served more than 4 million paying customers, and carried a valuation of $11 billion as of December 2025. Its most recent primary raise was a $275 million Series D in October 2021 led by Coatue and Sequoia.
