Elon Musk led the Series A financing in 2004, joined as chairman and largest investor, and became CEO in late 2008 as the company neared bankruptcy ahead of the Roadster launch. Tesla launched the Model S in 2012 and the Model 3 in 2017, which became the world's best-selling electric vehicle. The company IPO'd on Nasdaq as TSLA in June 2010. Tesla delivered 1.79 million vehicles in 2024 and reported $97.7 billion in revenue.
